Zubayr Ibn Awwam

He was called "Abu Abdullah" in reference to his oldest son, Abdullah. He was the Prophet's friend and disciple and, at the same time, the son of his aunt Safiyyah binti Abdulmuttalib.

After Hazrat Omar's (ra) death, he was one of the 6-member council established to make the election of the caliph. He migrated to Abyssinia. Just as he fought in all the battles, he played an important role in the conquest of Egypt. He fought in the battle of Jamal; however, he later quit the war. On the way back to Medina when he arrived at the headwater belonging to the Tamim tribe, Amr ibn Jarmouz began to follow him. He killed Zubayr at a place called the Siba Valley.

Ashara Mubashara (The Blessed Companions)

The Islamic prophet, Muhammad (s.a.w.), specified ten of his companions who were promised paradise. The companions named in this hadith are referred to as "The Ten With Glad Tidings of Paradise". The hadith is collected in two of the six books of the Kutub al-Sittah: the Jamiʿ at-Tirmidhi and the Sunan Abu Dawood.

The version of the hadith collected in the Jamiʿ at-Tirmidhi goes as follows:

“Abu Bakr will be in Paradise, ‘Omar will be in Paradise, ‘Usmaan will be in Paradise, ‘Ali will be in Paradise, Talhah will be in Paradise, al-Zubayr will be in Paradise, ‘Abd al-Rahmaan ibn ‘Awf will be in Paradise, Sa’d will be in Paradise, Sa’eed will be in Paradise, and Abu ‘Ubaydah ibn al-Jarraah will be in Paradise.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi)

  1. Hazrat Abu Bakr ibn Abu Quhafa
  2. Hazrat Omar ibn Khattab
  3. Hazrat Uthman ibn Affan
  4. Hazrat Ali ibn Abu Talib
  5. Hazrat Talha ibn Ubaydillah
  6. Hazrat Zubayr ibn al-Awwaam

  10. Hazrat Abu 'Ubayda, 'Aamir ibn 'Abdillah ibn al-Jarrah

Our Holy Prophet (PBUH) himself presented these ten individuals with glad tidings of Jannah, during his lifetime. He is known to have stated these ten names in a hadith pertaining to those companions for whom Paradise has been pre-ordained by Allah (SWT) on account of their services to Islam.

Some common traits of the Ashara Mubashara:

  • All became Muslim in the early years of Islam.
  • They made great service to the Prophet and the Islamic cause.
  • They migrated.
  • They swore allegiance to the Prophet at Hudaybiya.
  • There are many narrations in hadith sources regarding their virtues.
  • Sources of sound hadiths with narrations on these Companions.

What is the Day of Ashura?

Whoever spends the Day of Ashura, namely the 10th of Muharram, in ibAdah (Acts of worship) and in discharging sadaqah (charity) will be blessed by Allah SubhAnahu with plenty of thawAb (rewards). Abū Bakr al Warraq (rahmatullāhi ‘alayhi), a walī (friend) of Allāh said: “Every good deed in Rajab Sharīf is recorded as ten good deeds, in Sha‘bān Sharīf, as seventy, and in the Ramaḍān as one thousand.”

THE EXCELLENCE OF RAMAḌĀN SHARĪF

Rasūlullāh (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever attends a gathering of dhikr (remembrance of Allāh), Allāh Ta‘ālā writes one thawāb (merit) of ibādah for each step he takes (while going to and coming from that gathering) and he will be together with me under the Arsh al-Ā’la (The Great Throne) on the Day of Qiyāmah.” “Whoever continues to attend the congregation (of salāh) in the month of Ramaḍān, Allāh Ta‘ālā gives him one city made of light (in paradise) for every rak‘ah he has performed.”

THE MERITS OF THE NIGHT OF BARĀ’AH

Rasūlullāh (sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Allāh Ta‘ālā manifests (with His Mercy) in the night of the half of Sha‘bān (Sharif) and forgives all His creation, except the one who associates partners with Him or the one who has hatred in his heart (against a Muslim).” (Munāwī Faydh al-Qadīr)
