To Give From The Best

Hazrat Anas (R.A.) reported: Abu Talha (R.A.) was a sahabi from the Ansaar, who had the most number of date orchards in Madinah Al-Munawwarah. Among them, his favorite was the one called ‘Bayruha’. The prophet of Allah (S.A.W.) used to go there and drink from its spring water.

One Ayah of Surah Ali Imran, that reads “You cannot attain Al-Birr (real goodness) unless you give from what you love must.” was revealed. After that, Abu Talha (R.A.) came to Nabi (S.A.W.) an said: “O prophet of Allah! (S.A.W.). Indeed, Allah (S.W.T.) says “You cannot attain real goodness unless you spend from what you love most.” The most beloved possession of mine is the orchard of Bayruha. I am donating it for the sake of Allah (S.W.T), and I hope for Allah’s reward for that. O prophet of Allah (S.A.W.) you can use it how Allah (S.W.T.) tells you to do.” Rasulullah (S.A.W.) repeated twice: “Indeed it is a very profitable asset.” He (S.A.W.) added: “I understand you well. I wish that you donate it to your poor relatives.”

Abu Talha (R.A.) affirmed Rasulullah (S.A.W.): “I will do it that way, o prophet of Allah (S.A.W.)”. Then he went and shared that orchard among his relatives and cousins.
