The Gardens Of Jannah (Paradise) Are The Masajid (Mosques
Masjid literally means the place where Sajdah (prostration) is performed. Islamic places of worship are called Masjid. Masajid (mosques) are built to worship Allah Ta’âlâ . In this regard, every Masjid has a great virtue and honour. In order to indicate this honour, they are called ‘Baytullah’ (house of Allah). Thus, they deserve due respect. Even if the building of a Masjid were demolished, its land would continue to be a Masjid till the Last Day. Disrespect to the Masajid and not observing their due rights is a violation of the right of Allah (Ta’ala), which is a great offence.
In Surah Al-Tawbah Ayah 18 Allah Subhanahu says: “The mosques of Allah Ta’âlâ are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah Ta’âlâ and the Last Day and establish Salah and give Zakah and do not fear except Allah, for it is expected that those will be of the [rightly] guided.”
This Ayah is interpreted as follows: As a Masjid is a place where Allah Ta’ala is worshipped, those who don’t have Iman (faith) in Allah cannot be expected to construct a building to worship Allah Ta’ala. The benefit of worshipping Allah shall be seen on the Day of Qiyamah. For this reason, those who don’t believe in the Day of Qiyamah do not worship Allah Ta’ala at all. As they don’t make Ibadah, they neither construct a Masjid nor therefore adorn it with Ibadah. Those who frequently go to the Masajid will be blessed with three beautiful things: A friend who can be of help, words of wisdom and the mercy of Allah that one expects.
