Success Comes From Allah Taala

Khalid bin Walid (Radhiyallahu Anhu), the well-known commander of the Muslim army, was discharged from his duty by Hadhrat Umar (R.A.) in 17 A.H.

After the victory at Humus, when he was informed by Maslama (R.A.) that he was discharged from his office, Khalid bin Walid (R.A.) went to Madina and asked for a hearing in the presence of the Khalifa (caliph).

Since he did not know why he was dismissed from his office, he said ‘’O Amir-al-Mu’minin, I complained to the Muslims about you. By Allah, you have not treated me justly.’’

Umar (R. A.) said ‘’O Khalid! By Allah, you are very precious for me. And I love you very much. From now on, do not admonish me for anything.’’

Afterwards, Umar (Radhiyallahu Anhu) sent the following letter to every corner of the Muslim State: ‘’I did not dismiss Khalid (Radhiyallahu Anhu) because I was angry with him or because he was treacherous. However, people began to overestimate him and attribute each and every victory and achievement to him. I feared that they would begin to assume that all the success  was achieved because of him.

I discharged him because I wanted people to know that every success and victory was from Allah and thus, they were safe from fitnah (mischief/corruption)
